Summer Solstice is a three-day celebration of the apex of the Sun’s journey bringing light to the Earth. Though the heat of Summer is just beginning, this date actually begins the ‘metaphorical’ decline of the Sun as it embarks on its journey to the Underworld, which will culminate on December 21st,( the darkest day of the year).
This cycle also represents the stages of life that each person goes through in the physical, the spring of our youth, the summer peak of our adult years, the reaping of wisdom in our golden years of autumn and the return to spirit world in winter.
Ancient cultures including the Egyptians and Druids marked the passage of time in nature and the spirit world. They used the concepts of the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine principles found on the earth plane and the higher planes to teach about the circle of life. The story of the Oak King and the Holly King in the Druid lore or the Egyptian gods Isis and Osiris are both examples of how the seasons and cycles change.
This celebration is also known as Midsummer, the longest day of the year and the first official day of Summer. On this day, it is said that the Goddess manifests as Mother Earth and the God as the Sun King. In Celtic lore, it regarded as the best time to see fairies.
How Summer Solstice Is Celebrated
Summer Solstice is a time to celebrate and revel in the light and lighter side of life. In ancient times, most marriages were held during the month of June and the tradition called the ‘Honey Moon’ is a pagan tradition. The word honeymoon, came from the drinking of mead (made of fermented honey), which was used in wedding ceremonies held during MidSummer.
Ancient Celts lit huge bonfires in clearings and on roads to give strength to the sun and keep evil spirits at bay. People wore amulets made with herbs to protect themselves, while others leaped through bonfires for purification, good health and love.
The evening before, during and after the Summer Solstice is the most important time of the year to pay attention to your dreams. It is reported that during this three day period, that what is dreamed of, will come to fruition. It is also the time that the ‘fae’ (faries) bestow good luck upon the people and is considered to be the best day of the year to see a fairy. This magic was best popularized in Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
Legends state that in order to see a fairy on MidSummer’s eve, sit quietly outside with your eyes half open and gaze at a spot under a big tree. Fair/Fairy warning: if you meet a fairy, don’t eat their food or you’ll have to remain with them for seven years, (which could be a lot of fun, but will seriously wreck any plans you have made).
A Wisdom Teaching Ritual for Summer Solstice:
In my work as a wisdom teacher, I share rituals that were used in the ancient temples, while bringing them into modern day practices. The Summer Solstice is a powerful time to visualize any negative thoughts and energy burning away to nothingness.
Here is a Purification/Cleansing ritual for the Summer Solstice:
The first step is to remove any negative thoughts you are holding on to. Write down your negative feelings on paper and then release them by burning them to ash in a safe container.
The second step is to remove negative energy from the home. In order to do this, bundle rosemary and white sage together with white thread and dip the tips into a bowl of spring water and sprinkle about the house to remove negativity and cleanse and purify.
The third step is to purify and cleanse your body and energy fields. Take a shower and while doing so, visualize the water washing your negative energy away and cleansing you. Here is the ritual to say while the water is on you in the shower. Begin by taking three deep breathes, breathing deeply to inhale and removing any stagnant energy when exhaling.
Then say aloud:
Mother Earth grounds me (earth)
This deep breath restores me (air)
The rays of Father Sun nourish me. (fire)
This pure water renews me. (water)
I am filled with Pure Light as I journey forward. (spirit)
Touch your forehead and say…
Let my mind open to the truth. (divine wisdom)
Touch your lips and say….
Let my lips speak the truth. (divine communication)
Touch your heart area and say:
Let my heart seek the ways of pure love, now and always. (divine love)
Touch each palm and say:
Let my hands be gifted to work in healing ways. (divine touch)
Touch the sole of each foot and say:
Let my feet ever walk upon the sacred path. (divine journey)
Exit the shower, wrap yourself up in a robe and find a comfortable place to sit. Light a candle and drink some spring water. When comfortable, begin a 15 minute meditation, asking for your guides to join you and share with you a message they have for you this night.

‘If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies’. – Nadine Stair
The mere mention of spring reminds me of a chance to begin everything in life anew. On a deeper level, I remember past lives as a Celtic maiden, playing hide and seek in the woods with friends, and delighting in the discovery of a meadow of flowers, plucking a handful of them to make herbal concoctions and a potion or two for safekeeping.
Times have changed and I like most of us, live in an overly domesticated suburban world, with only small patches and parks to remind me of my natural roots. Yet, at the first hint of spring, my shoes go flying off and I have to sink my toes deep into the green grass, to connect my auric fields back into the earth.
One evening, while I was out doing just this very thing, along with a bit of stargazing, I was greeted by the sweetest little bunny in my yard. As I stood there in the quiet of my backyard, I felt a stirring from deep within me, heralding the return of my creativity, fertility and sense of adventure. Above me the stars of my ancestors surrounded me with their love, reminding me that I never walk alone and here next to me, represented here in the form of this beautiful bunny, stood the goddess Ostara, inviting me to embrace the divine feminine and take a walk on the wild side. Never one to turn down an invitation, I opened mind, heart, body and soul and joined in on nature’s dance for a few hours, reveling in the silver light of the moon.
The next morning, I reflected on the ritual known as ‘spring break’, and how the word break means to end one thing and begin something new. Breakfast for example, means to ‘break the fast’, from being asleep and not eating, to awakening and eating, thus “breaking the fast”. In the same way, we follow a similar ritual with spring break, as we stir from the deep slumber of winter and emerge from hibernation and the cave of the home. We in this sense, like our ancestors, are breaking from the cold bonds of winter and entering a new cycle. This is why rituals were created, to mark the passage of time and the movement from one season to another or to memorialize a special event or ceremony.
Spring is the most powerful time of the year to raise the vibration of all of the auric fields. The Spring Equinox is the most optimum time of the year to raise the energy in the fields and chakras and open the heart chakra. The heart chakra and astral field open when the lower bodies are clear and the energy is ready to rise. Like the flowers of spring, all good things bloom in time. Spring represents joy, hope, adventure and love. It is a time to play. We are emerging from the restorative period of winter and are full of energy to express. If you have planted the seeds of thought and affirmation in the fall, you will now be prompted from within on how best to take action at this time. Enjoy, for all of nature is with you at this time, bursting with color and vibrant energy. The world is a virtual feast of energy and your auric fields will soak it up every day. Throw open the windows, go on long walks, surround yourself with fresh flowers and best of all, go play.
Let Nature Be Your Guide…
The elements of nature provide tremendous resources to assist in healing and restoring energy to the auric fields. The uplifting sights, vibrational sounds and revitalizing scents of nature’s finest, renew the mind, body and spirit on multiple levels. In addition, the seasonal cycles connect us to the energetic earth based transformations. When we understand how to connect with nature, we can draw upon this energy to enhance our auric bodies. When we focus our energy in conjunction with elements, we can create forces of powerful healing energy. These forces are the most powerful during special seasonal cycles on the earth and when we harness this energy and draw it into our fields, the energy magnifies three-fold. The cycles represent the stages of life each person goes through in the physical; the spring of our youth, the summer peak of our adult years, the reaping of wisdom in our golden years of autumn, and our introspective return to spirit world in winter.
Each area of the world has its own unique energy and auric field. Mountainous areas give off one type of energy, which varies significantly from the energy of the beaches. As I travel, I can’t help but notice the aura of each area. Some areas radiate with the color so intensely that it fills the sky. One example that has always stayed with me was that I used to notice landscapes and seascapes painted by artists who portrayed an overwhelming shade of pink throughout the canvas. These seascapes were always connected with Florida and I never really understood why the artist would choose to use so much pink in their painting of a blue ocean and beige sand. I surmised that they must have been trying to capture the glow of a sunset at that brief moment when the sky turns pink. Years later, while moving to Florida I experienced what they were seeing. When driving into the state, there’s a certain demarcation line where the auric field in the land and sky connect and turn pink! I was so overcome by the beauty of it and realized why so many people are drawn to live in Florida for the healing heart energy they receive while there. It truly is a wonderful place to heal and enhance the heart chakra area. Though I no longer live in Florida, I drive there often. When I do, I can now almost calculate to the exact mile where the energy changes and the pink glow begins. It is as thrilling to me each time I see the pink hue, as it was the very first time.
Another extremely powerful area with a strong auric energy is the Hawaiian Islands. There are parts of Hawaii where the energy is so pure that you soak up the auric field through all of your five senses and even the sixth. Hawaii exudes the energy of “creative fire” and when you visit the islands, your creative energy will rise. It is rare to meet anyone who has spent time there, who has not found that they return energetically uplifted and inspired. Their auric field is recharged and full of light and vitality and is ready to create and manifest something new and exciting from the time they spent in the islands. If you are looking to make a change in your life and want to connect with your creativity and reignite that spark, a visit to Hawaii should be on your list of things to do.
Few things excite my energy fields more than a good breeze when it picks up and I feel the wind swirling around me. A gentle breeze brings much more than cooling relief to the body, it stimulates the energy fields and removes residual energy. A strong breeze, such as during a storm, electrifies this energy and after blowing away stagnant energy, it stimulates the vibration of the fields. This is why many people become excited during a storm, it stirs something deep within and calls them into action.
When you are in need of removing residual energy from your auric fields and want a quick recharge, going somewhere with strong breezes will do the trick. A mountain area with strong breezes will work as well as on an island which receives the Trade Winds. Traveling on a cruise ship also connects you with the ocean breeze. During the cruise, stand at the front of the ship and lets the breeze blow over you. Doing this activity for a few minutes a day on a cruise ship will literally blow your cares away.
There are some occasions where the wind is not helpful to removing energy from the auric fields. Dry desert winds are not beneficial. An example of how dry wind affects people is the Santa Ana winds, which blow in Southern California. When the Santa Ana winds arrive, people report feeling nervous, uptight, on edge and have strong mood swings and irritability. These winds carry a large number of positive ions. Negative ions provide a peaceful and calming effect to the human auric fields. The opposite occurs with positive ions, as they make people feel upset and uncomfortable. The overabundance of positive ions in the Santa Ana wind also disrupts the auric energy fields rather than enhancing them.
Take a Breath of Fresh Air this Spring!
To clear energy from the auric fields, spend some time in an area with a strong breeze. To restore energy to the auric fields using the element of air, refer to the deep breathing and meditative exercises throughout the Awakened Aura book. Pull in clear fresh air and pure energy into the auric fields using three deep breaths. Deep breathing exercises are beneficial to the physical body and with each exhale you removes negative energy from the body and auric fields. In addition, to add air energy in or around your home, a wind chime will move the energy around your home. Place it near a window where a breeze will blow the chime around or near an air register where it will chime when the a/c unit blows. If you prefer not to have it near a window or vent, ring the wind chime once a day to circulate air energy.

Kala Ambrose teaching about Auras at Edgar Cayce’s ARE
In this column feature “Ask Kala”, intuitive and ancient wisdom teacher Kala Ambrose invites you to email your probing metaphysical, esoteric and paranormal questions. Due to the volume of email she receives, she won’t be able to answer back individual e-mails. Instead, she’ll choose interesting questions and answer them here on Kala’s Bohemian Blog. This question is from Kelley.
Kelley writes – “Hello Kala, I have a digital alarm clock that I used to have to reset every 5 days or so because it gained time. I’ve had this clock a few years and its always been this way. My mother’s room was adjacent to mine. She recently died and since then I haven’t had to reset my clock!! Could she have affected the clock’s mechanism? It sounds weird but a few years ago she went to see a psychic who I had seen as well as other members of my family. He knew the names of deceased relatives, etc. There was no problem reading me or other members of my family. And no, we didn’t volunteer information as we were somewhat skeptical and didn’t want to give him any clues he could work from. Anyway, my mother went to see him and he was stumped. He tried and tried but he couldn’t read her. Are there people who can affect clocks, etc without knowing it? Thank you”.
Thanks for writing with a most intriguing question. You ask – “Are there people who can affect clocks, etc without knowing it”?
The short answer is Yes and it has been studied, researched and discussed by people in both the spiritual and scientific realms.
The Aura Body and Energy
As an intuitive, I’ve seen auras since childhood. Over the years, I began to study what I saw in the aura, observing the energetic patterns and shapes as well as short energy bursts that I would see erupting from the body, similar to what occurs when the sun emits a solar flare. These energetic bursts are capable of disrupting electronics and are felt by other people who have intuitive ability and are sensitive to energy. Some people are aware of the energy they can build and for others it is a complete surprise when it occurs.
In some cases, it is not a burst of energy that is created, but rather energy residue that has built up and is trapped within the aura and energy bodies and is not able to be released properly. To imagine what this looks like in the field surrounding the body, visualize a thunder storm right before the rain is released from the clouds. The clouds are heavy and full, the energy gathers and the air feels pregnant, ready for a release. If the conditions are not right and the rain is not able to gently fall, tumultuous weather patterns can occur with lightning and high winds. Energy blocked in the fields can cause similar disruptions as it seeks to be released. When there is a blockage which stops the release of energy, it builds like a thunderstorm and can create havoc.
There are also people who have learned consciously with their spiritual practice, and sometimes subconsciously carrying over information from previous lifetimes, to balance and harness this energy. They are able to take this energy to creative positive effects in the world including healing abilities in many forms, such as physical healing, soul healing, working with nature and raising the energy vibration of people and places wherever they are.
What About the Clocks
Each of the three energy types listed above can have an effect on the electronics near their energy field. I receive reports each year from people who have experiences including turning street lights on and off as they pass by them. Others affect the performance of radios, clocks, computers and televisions or cause lights, security alarms and other electronics in their home to turn off and on repeatedly. For many years, I was not able to wear a watch, as invariably, when I did, the watch would malfunction or stop completely. I’ve also had a similar effect on clocks, including the clock that I kept in the library where I taught the esoteric teachings for years. The clock would never keep the time and would randomly change the time often and then stop working completely. The clock was looked at to see if it was in need of repair and it was found to be in good working order. The batteries would be replaced with new batteries only to run down again quickly.
There are a variety of physical, emotional and spiritual reasons for why this happens. For some people, it occurs only when their emotions are running very high and for others it was a random event occurring only when they were going through puberty. Some of these people are tapping into what is described in parapsychology as psychokinesis/telekinesis (PK/TK). While there are skeptics who will say that the human body is not capable of affecting these fields, those who have experienced doing so first hand see the results.
There has been some scientific parapsychological research on this effect, including what is referred to as the Pauli effect. Further research needs to be continued on psychokinesis, expanded consciousness and expanded energy fields so that it can be further understood. Unfortunately, there has not been enough support with funding for many institutes to continue these studies at the level needed to provide the deeper research needed. Some of the most notable researchers in this field of study include J.B. Rhine (Rhine Research Center), Professor Bill Roll (University of West Georgia), Dean Radin (Institute of Noetic Sciences) and Robert Jahn and Roger Nelson (PEAR laboratory at Princeton).
A form of psychokinesis/telekinesis was recently featured in the film with George Clooney entitled The Men Who Stare at Goats, which focused on the US Army’s research into psi abilities. Another example would be the fictional book and film by Stephen King entitled Carrie, which displayed an extreme and negative show of psi ability with PK/TK force.
More information about auras and energy fields can be found in Kala’s book, The Awakened Aura: Experiencing the Evolution of Your Energy Body.
Do you see signs, numbers or things repeatedly?
Have there been moments of synchronicity in your life?
Ever wondered if the universe has a hidden language?
Are you ready to tap into your Conversation with the Universe?
Award winning 11:11 Magazine publisher and 11:11 Talk Radio Host, Simran Singh, has written a book entitled Conversations With the Universe… How the World Speaks to Us. Simran’s work has always been beautifully creative, wisdom filled and devoted to the journey of the soul. This is book will assist you in becoming aware of your conversation and an expanded experience of you. Are you having a conversation?
How did she know the signs to follow?
“Living is not a tedious exercise of getting through one thing after another, but a gentle awakening to a deep and profound connection of the Universe continually speaking to us through this earth school. We are not just receiving a sign or synchronicity from time to time; they are ever-present in everything and speaking volumes to each one of us.” -Simran Singh
This is a true story about life’s biggest mystery; “What is the purpose of the world and our being here?” Conversations With the Universe confirms that there is only ‘good’ and reveals the conversations that lead into interconnected living, knowing and being. This fascinating page-turner will forever change your views about yourself, the world and the experience of life.
• The captivating story of how the conversations began in her life.
• Her understanding of how truly magical life is and what we do to miss it.
• How she “proved” to herself that the conversations were real and the many ways the Universe was using the world to speak to her.
• The difference between intuition, guidance and a conversation from the Universe.
• The importance of the bodily senses in leading us deeper into spiritual awakening.
• Why no matter the experience, everything that happens is for our good.
Here is an excerpt from the initial pages of the book:
“Confusion, doubt, chaos and crisis, anger, despair, and pain are all excellent conditions for growth. These moments encourage us to look at the Self: dreams, fears, doubts, inner darkness, and Light. Within each circumstance is a message, a gift—a calling, in fact. Something taps upon the heart, asking it to open, reconnect, and come home. There is something old within, and it knows of a language we have long forgotten. But it is still there, ever present and waiting. It is a special language that, if followed, can be fully discerned over time. You must be willing to see with the eyes, but receive with the inner eye. Hear with the ears, but avail yourself of the subtle inner hearing. Most importantly, shut down the doubting mind by overriding all practical thought. Instead, fully open your senses and engage the wisdom of the heart and the gut. Hidden in these areas is your true brain, your soul’s receptors. These are the language hubs of the Universe. The mind may try to process it, but the gut will understand it and the heart will integrate it. Get ready to dive in for a full and engaging sensory experience.”
I love birds, many of them are my totem animals and I’ve always resonated with their energy. A wonderful variety of our feathered friends surround our home here and every year at the holidays, a Wren nests in our front door. Nothing feels sweeter than seeing that wee Wren sleeping each night on the wreath hanging on our door.
One of the aspects that I adore about all birds is that they are tenacious by nature and determined to do what they do best. This brings me to the story at hand… A couple of days ago, a Woodpecker in our area attracted a mate and he is now “drumming”, to establish his territory.
Drumming is the knocking/drilling percussion sound that Woodpeckers make when pecking on wood and this particular Woodpecker has chosen our home to drum. It’s a misnomer that Woodpeckers drum on a home to eat insects, ornithologists have explained that this occurs less than ten percent of the time when the bird is pecking on the home and that even in those cases, they are in search of an insect that they saw crawling between the boards. For most Woodpeckers, they have a better source of food available in the dead trees and limbs around them in the forest. This is certainly the case for our visiting Woodpecker as we live next to a lake and nature park with lots of trees and insects for the taking. It’s not unusual through the course of the year around our home to find deer in the front and back yard as well as rabbits, geese and more species of birds than I can identify.
For the past several days the Woodpecker has been drumming on our home and if you haven’t had this experience, you’ll know when you do. It literally sounds like someone is knocking on your home or playing a drum. My biggest surprise with this encounter has been to observe our little dog, who is extremely vigilant and barks at every noise near our home. Our pup barks at car doors closing, voices, knocks on the door, you name it. We have nicknamed him, Chief of Security, as no one in the neighborhood can make a move without him checking on their progress and updating us on the situation. To my surprise, when the Woodpecker drums quite loudly on our home, our pup goes completely quiet. He actually stops what he is doing and listens to the sound and appears to be attempting to understand the communication. It’s been fascinating to observe and I find myself having the same reaction when I hear the drumming, both pup and I stop what we’re doing and tune in to the sound, connecting to the beat of the drumming and of nature’s voice.
screen opened by visiting Woodpecker
As a wisdom teacher of Celtic origin, I know well enough that when one of nature’s creatures attempts contact so directly, that there is a message from Spirit to be delivered. Yet I must confess that for the past month I have been so busy and caught up in the demands of my work, that I paid him little attention. In response to my lack of response, the Universe in its divine wisdom turned up the interaction between the Woodpecker and I in order to get my attention and deliver the message.
With full commitment to deliver his message to me, two days ago the Woodpecker attempted to enter the window in my office where I write. He decided that he’d like to make a nest for his new mate here in my window and the only thing stopping him from this progress was the screen in front of the window. I came in to the office to find him having done swift work on the screen, making an entry to begin building the nest. This isn’t the first time that birds have built a nest at our home, several years ago we discovered a nest with blue eggs in our dryer vent with the mother and eggs inside. As someone who works with the spiritual planes and the earth planes, I’ve always surrounded our home with a loving energy and explained to all of nature that they are welcome here at our home, which is why many nights my husband and I venture out on the deck out back to find several deer waiting to commune with us in the most gentle and peaceful manner.
When each of Mother Nature’s creatures honor me with such a visit, I know they have taken the time to deliver their totem wisdom to me and that it is important that I pay attention to the message they bring. In this case, the Woodpecker, with his shaman like drumming, continued to visit and I knew that I must stop what I was doing and take the time to focus on his totem wisdom.
When a Woodpecker visits you, he brings his “medicine”, his energy and the message from spirit. Woodpecker medicine reminds us to pay attention to rhythm and patterns and announces that opportunity is coming swiftly and one must be ready to take advantage of the opportunity when it arrives. The Woodpecker is known as nature’s “drummer” and like drums used in rituals, it is said that his medicine can allow one to move between the spirit and earth planes. The Woodpecker connects us with our root chakra and reminds us to ground to our roots and step out of our traditional routines and open up to the creative energy surrounding us at all times. It is a reminder to shake off the old energy that has taken hold and become routine and to shake things up with new rhythm in order to embrace new dimensions and understanding of space and time.
The Woodpecker came to visit me at the perfect time, shaking me from several months here where I have been working very hard in the traditional sense non-stop and reminding me that when I use my creative talents and non-traditional spiritual forms of communication that things always flow more smoothly for me. Yesterday I thanked him for his message and spoke to Spirit, letting them know that I had received the message and had adjusted my energy flow accordingly. During my communication with Spirit I sat facing the trees and sky and my pup crawled into my lap to take part in the moment. The Woodpecker flew back to my window and drummed once again in sympatico as I sent my communication and gratitude outward to him and to Spirit.
I haven’t seen him here today at our home and I’m not sure if he will return to finish his work on the screen to build his nest or if now that his message has been received, if he will be guided to move on elsewhere.
Either way I am grateful for the message he delivered and the always helpful guidance from the animal kingdom. Animal messengers enter our lives in many ways, the next time one draws your attention, take the time to stop and receive the message and gift.
