5 Reiki Self-Treatments for a Restful Sleep

October 5th, 2011

It’s easy to forget, once you’re attuned to Reiki, how helpful it can be in the practical, down-to-earth, every day sense. Reiki is often taught with metaphysical lingo and an otherworldly vibe that can make it seem disconnected from our every day reality here. But as I’m often reminded, Reiki is as natural as breathing, and as simple, too. Just as we remember to take a deep breath, we can remember to place a loving hand where we may need healing. Reiki, to me, is the same as the Holy Spirit – that divine spirit of God – that naturally flows through the air and breathes life into the land and her inhabitants.

I remember this on nights when I feel charged with too much energy, a.k.a. overtired, and need a little extra help to drift off to a deep and healing sleep. Here are some tips I’ve learned when using Reiki for a restful sleep.

Simple Self-Treatments for Sleep

1. First, try Reiki at your heart. Simply place your hands at your chest and right above, around the collarbone. Notice if you feel any shifts or relief there.

2. Move up to the throat. Does your throat need a cleansing from the day? Move your hands to the base of the skull, in the back of the head. Many times when there’s difficulty sleeping, there is energy congestion at the base of the skull. Moving this through can help with sleep.

3. Place your hands on your forehead. How does this feel? Now, try moving your hands above your forehead. Notice how this feels.

4. Next, move the hands to the ears. Do your ears need a cleansing from the day?

5. Lastly, move the hands to the top of the head and try different positions until you find the “hot spot.” The hot spot will be a particular meridian point where there’s a block – and once the Reiki connects with it and energy starts to flow again, you may feel a sense of peace, relaxation and relief.

Additional Healing Techniques for Sleep

Guided Meditation. I like adding an angel meditation to my nighttime practice. When I combine a brief Reiki treatment and listen to a guided angel meditation, I find no matter how many hours I end up getting, I awake feeling refreshed and in a great mood! Try the P.M. Angel Healing meditation (includes Reiki guide) from Chakra Healing with Archangels.

Prayer. Try this prayer to combine with your nighttime Reiki: “Dear God and Angels, please detach me from the energies of the day. Release me from any stress, worry and uneasiness. Fill me with love, peace and healing. Thank you, I love you.”

Affirmation. I let go of this day and give it to God. I give all my worries to God, and feel thankful for my blessings. I cut the mental and emotional cords to people, places and things of the day and I love and accept myself unconditionally. All is well.
