Reiki Healing 101: the healing power of peace
I was thinking of how to explain how one becomes a Reiki healer without using metaphysical, esoteric language like “universal life force energy” “awakening the chakras” and “kundalini”. I have a lot of nurse friends who are trained in practical and linear-based medical knowledge. They won’t get what I’m trying to say if I tell them Reiki is harnessing divine energy through your hands. They are going to want to know what Reiki is, how does it work and how do you become “attuned” to it?
This is where I have to admit that Reiki is far from conventional in it’s origin. Reiki is something Einstein can probably explain to us easiest since it involves the physics of energy. Dr. Oz describes it as “energy medicine” that works with your body’s electrical currents. He also described Reiki as the medicine of the future.
I can’t separate Reiki from spirituality, though you do not have to be spiritual to use or benefit from it. My personal belief is Reiki is what Jesus used to help people heal – the healing, omnipresent energy of God that he was able to channel for healing.
I believe this is what we’re doing with Reiki. The symbols that tune your body into this frequency are like keys unlocking doors in your system – being “attuned” is a harmless process, the same as when your brain acquires new information. There is a higher intelligence in your human energy field that recognizes the frequency wave being transmitted, and picks it up much like how a radio picks up a local station. Once you’re dialed into that “Reiki” station, you are always able to access this divinely intelligent God energy, without having to deplete your own. Or you can choose never to “tune in” again. It will remain on your system’s radar nonetheless for you to use if you ever want to.
Just like a muscle, it takes practice and regular use to feel your Reiki energy get stronger. If you have a mind that needs to understand how everything works, Reiki may remain a mystery to you at this time. But even in medical science, mysteries remain. A doctor must turn to his intuition when he can’t find the obvious answers from his books or experience. God is always working through people to help others. Without our intuition, we would not be able to access the divinely inspired ideas that lead to major breakthroughs. Our human mind is limited, but our intuition is unlimited in it’s potential to receive new information.
So why does Reiki have to be passed on from teacher to student? I believe it’s because we’re not normally awakened to such an ability. It’s like expecting someone to play pro tennis when they’ve never picked up a racket. Or to ramble off the meaning of Pi when they’ve never studied math. Most people are not studying the frequency of energetic waves or how they could be used for something other than nuking leftovers. Most people are not living in such a state of enlightenment that they can access this kind of frequency present in the universe. Just like how the chiropractor helps align your bones, a Reiki Master helps align your energetic field to access this higher frequency.
Thanks to the attunement process, anybody can receive the ability to use Reiki instantly. For some, it may take practice to really get that energy flowing.
Like anything else, you’ve got to practice and study to make the most of it. But unlike other healing techniques, Reiki removes the ego from the healing process and focuses on the innate power that every human being has to heal. It reminds us how simple healing can be when we open our hearts to love and surrender to the divine intelligence of God and the human body He created. In the most simplistic terms, Reiki creates the possibility for healing to occur. And it reminds both practitioner and recipient how powerful the presence of peace really is.
