8 Empowerment Tips To Overcome Negativity
Negativity is like a virus. When you’re exposed to it for ongoing periods of time, it can make you feel tired, unmotivated, achy, depressed, irritable, angry and lead to a host of emotional and physical symptoms including insomnia and chronic conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome, IBS and fibromyalgia. When you’ve been exposed to ongoing negativity, it can begin to change your perspective, thoughts and even behavior. Your boundaries may get weak and you may feel you lose some self-respect. It is vital to protect yourself from negativity as much as possible. It’s human to feel negative about things sometimes, but to engage in negative talk and thinking regularly is extremely unhealthy.
Even if you are currently stuck in a work or living situation that is less than ideal, you can still find ways to protect yourself, and your vital energy so you don’t feel so drained and negative yourself. Showers and baths are one way to clear energy – you may notice you feel better after being in the water.
Empowerment Steps
Wash it off in water. Morning and evening showers or baths can wash away the residue of negativity exposure you’ve had during the day and help you feel more relaxed and calm.
Aromatherapy. Wear uplifting essential oils or perfumes to give your mood a boost. You’ll know what’s right for you by whatever scent instantly makes you feel better. Inhale whenever you feel stressed.
Flower essences. They do make a difference. Sold at the local health food store, you just put them in your mouth or water bottle and sip all day. Great mood and energy protector.
Avoid engaging in negative talk and gossip. It’s too easy to get sucked into that world of drama and it’s an ugly one. No one feels good being in a negative frame of mind or trashing other people. It just shows how unhappy they are with their own lives that they have nothing positive or interesting to talk about.
Take breaks as much as possible. Physically leaving the environment is important, especially outdoors. Taking breaks from work during the day to inhale outside, journal or do some office yoga helps detach from negativity. Getting out of the house and taking walks or going to a yoga class can also make a difference.
Keep to yourself. People pleasing cannot be part of the equation when you are around negativity. This is about your health, not about being rude or selfish. If you find yourself on edge every time you’re around certain people or in certain environments, avoid them as much as possible because over time they can make you sick. Say no to hanging out in situations that make you feel uncomfortable and bad about yourself in any way. Life is too short – it’s not worth it!
Turn to friends and loved ones or a counselor. It helps to talk to supportive and loving people who are removed from your situation and can help you remember how good and empowering it feels to have a positive outlook on life. Laughter is also the best medicine to clear negative energy from your system.
Say morning and evening prayers for protection and cleansing.
Morning prayer:
Dear God and my angels, please protect me in a shield of love and self-respect today. Help me overcome any challenges that present themselves today. Remind me of all the good in my life and help me not personalize or absorb other people’s unhappiness. I have the power to create a good day for myself with lots of things to be grateful for. No one has the power to take away my happiness or peace of mind today!
Evening prayer:
Dear God and Archangel Michael, please replace any negativity I was exposed to today with peace of mind and a deep feeling of relaxation. Please remove any energy that is negative or that doesn’t belong to me and bring it to the light for transformation. Fill me with God’s love and brilliant light and remove any traces of stress from my body, mind and spirit. I am willing to feel peaceful and happy. Thank you!
