Being a professional in a big company can seem such a stressful journey through humdrum. But Love reaches all corners and cubicles. It is up to you to recognize it and seize the amazing opportunity of working for Love, with Love and because of Love.

Pimpin’ it

July 26th, 2010

I love my desk and its big drawers. I call my office my second home, and it truly looks like it. I have clothes, shoes, a pillow, a mini TV, a coffee machine and my beauty supplies. Every day I arrive one hour early, open my work place and get everything I need to get ready to work.

So, spending most of my time @office, I need for my desk to look groovy, joyful, loving and fun.

I remember when I first came to work here; everything seemed so serious and professional. Two weeks later my friend Rubén asked: “When are you going to decorate your place?” My jaw dropped and with a big smile replied: “Can I do that?”

Of course, I got so excited that after a couple of hours invested in pimpin’ it, Rubén looked more and more amazed: “Is that for the top cabinet?” “Are you gonna put that sticker too?” “Where do you get all this stuff?” “Ok, you gotta stop! Stop now. Enough.”

When my team and I moved to the 35th floor I spent a lot of time putting everything away, then I had to change to another place and I had to do everything all over again. But each time I pack and unpack my place looks better and better.

The best part is when someone from another department has a moment of fun creativeness with us. Decorating my desk has become more than just making it look pretty. It has become a way to spread the joy of working surrounded by colors, sounds, textures, smiles and the unique beautiful members of my team.

So from now on I will remember these tips to a fun work-place.

  1. Have fun but be polite and respectful
  2. But never forget a little bit of silliness
  3. Keep in touch with my inner child
  4. Look for funny props and toys
  5. Make it a team effort. Ask others to contribute
(Yup, that’s Rob Pattinson working at our office, at least the cut-out version)
