A Vision of Love with Ruth Hegarty, coach to women entrepreneurs
- What does the word Love mean to you?
- Have you ever felt like love was missing from your life? (How do you handle these periods of time?)
- What is the biggest way you see that love (or the lack thereof) has impacted our world today?
- What is the last extraordinary book you read and what impact did it have on you?
- From your perspective, what is the most practical way to bringing more love into the world?
- Is there a connection between love and inspiration? Who in your lifetime has inspired you the most?
- How do you incorporate love into your business or professional life?
When I think of the word LOVE I get a physical feeling of joyfulness. I also start to picture my loved ones. I use the word often and love the sense of powerfulness and peacefulness that it has about it. For me, it conjures up an overarching priority that both informs and explains everything I am.
Of course, I think we all have from time to time. Years ago I used to dwell on it. However, I’ve learned through experience that there is always some form of love in our lives no matter what. When we focus on that love, we attract more love and more feelings of love so we stop feeling like love is missing from our lives. Even if we focus on how much our pet loves us or how much we love flowers, more love grows from that and it’s those feelings that get us to the feelings of love we crave.
I think a fear of the lack of love makes people focus more on getting love rather than giving love. We have started to talk about love as if it is a commodity rather than a heart-based connection. Our focus on “getting” love distracts us from actually feeling loved and loving.
Most recently the book that has touched me deeply is “How to See Yourself As You Really Are” by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. As someone who struggled for years with a deep sense of self-loathing before learning that in order to give and accept love in the world we must first give and accept love within ourselves, I find the author’s ability to love despite anything profoundly humbling and empowering.
We spread love in the world effortlessly by simply expressing the love we feel.
Absolutely. Love is creative and passionate (even when it’s not romantic love). My mother was the single biggest and most powerful influence in my life. She vibrated with love and compassion in a way that made her seem both gentle and extraordinarily powerful. She was so certain in her love that she made those around her feel her joyfulness.
I incorporate love into my business on a few fronts. First, I spend time within myself thinking about the love I feel for my business, my clients, my profession, etc. Second, I deliberately use positive loving language in all aspects of my work as well as consciously choose to work with like-minded clients and partners. I also include self-love processes in all of my programs and services as I truly believe that healthy self-love is at the heart of business success.
Your Vision: What intrigues you the most about where the world is headed today?
I am most intrigued by the move toward a more spiritual and heart based way of living and doing business. We are beginning to recognize on a whole new level the human potential for good and compassion and to see these as strengths in the world.
